Our Fashion Design programme enables the student to have an in-depth understanding of subject which involves both creativity and use of technology.

Our courses are carefully designed to enable students to understand design concepts, various processes leading to the final production. The course subjects comprise class lectures, demonstrations and practical exercises and projects by students.

Course Structure

This subject is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills through practical exercises, lectures, demonstrations and examples to enable them to identify and apply the basic theories of colour and design elements and principles. Students will have to successfully complete practical exercises and integrated projects in order to complete this subject.

This subject introduces the student to basic computing skills required for design and presentation that will enrich the students understanding of the different image file types and the common programs available for image editing, illustration, coloring and layout organization.

The subject provides an extensive coverage of textiles knowledge, starting from the original source of plants to the synthesis of chemicals to produce fibers. It allows the students to analyze the different types of fibers, yarns, construction of fabrics, knitting, weaving, dyeing, printing and many other techniques that are available in the textile industry.

To provide participants with the basic principles of marketing in the context of fashion retail industry through practical exercises, lectures, demonstrations and case studies. The primary scope is to cover all foundational concepts of fashion marketing management, so that the students are able to grasp other advanced subjects in their program successfully. Students need to accomplish tasks such as an assignment, an integrated project and examinations in order to complete the subject.

This subject provide participants with the knowledge and skills through practical exercises, lectures, demonstrations and examples to enable them to understand the vocabulary and fundamental rules of draping and to create and develop basic muslins on the mannequin or industrial dress form.

To provide participants with the knowledge and skills through practical exercises, lectures, demonstrations and examples to enable them to identify the morphological components of the human form related to the female cut. To provide the students with the ability to draft master slopers (blocks) for women’s wear and use them to develop basic patterns.

To enable the student to identify the vocabulary and fundamental rule pertaining to fashion sketches in relation to figure drawing. To develop a sense of proportion and dimension for fashion based sketches. Students will have to successfully complete practical exercises and an integrated project in order to complete the subject.

This subject is designed to introduce the student to the development of costume throughout the major historical periods and will provide students with the ability to understand and identify the main characteristics of silhouettes, textiles, accessories for each period.

To provide participants with the knowledge and skills through practical exercises, lectures, demonstrations and examples to enable them to identify the configuration of the female silhouette in relation to the cut of more complex ladies garments. To provide the students with the ability to draft master slopers (blocks) for women’s wear and use them to develop more complex patterns.

This subject will offer the knowledge and skills through practical exercises and examples, to enable students to illustrate fabric textures and patterns on the fashion figure in various poses and movements; also to develop a sense of fabric movement, fabric draping and light reflections through the use of appropriate mediums. Students will have to successfully complete practical exercises and integrated project in order to complete this subject.

This subject is designed to introduce the student to the development of contemporary fashion beginning with the Baroque Period through to the end of the 19th century and will provide the student with the ability to understand and identify the main characteristics of silhouettes, textiles and accessories for each period.

This subject provide participants with the knowledge and skills through practical exercises, lectures, demonstrations and examples to enable them to understand more complex techniques to drape garments on the industrial dress form. Students will also be provided with the opportunity and the ability to understand the fundamental draping techniques using the bias for draped bodices, dresses and collars.

To provide students with the knowledge and skills through practical exercises and projects, lectures, demonstrations and examples to enable them to identify and understand sewing techniques and details for advanced men’s and women’s tailored garments.

This subject will offer the knowledge and skills through practical exercises and examples, to enable students to develop ideas from fundamental research, concept, and processes that explore design in order to communicate these ideas into developing fashion and collections.

This subject is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills through practical exercises, lectures, demonstrations and examples to enable them to apply the basic skills of technical drawings to communicate design ideas and construction details. To identify and apply the vocabulary of classic garment shapes their variations and key garment styling and details. Students will have to successfully complete practical exercises and integrated projects in order to complete this subject.

This subject explores the development of techniques and details that form the bases of Couture.

This unit covers key aspects of research and communication studies in academic contexts relevant to students of design and marketing. Students engage in collaborative learning activities throughout the term in order to develop their teamwork skills. Students learn to locate, understand and critically evaluate information from books, journals, the Internet and primary sources in order to do effective research. Using these sources of information, students then produce an extended piece of analytical writing and give oral presentations to their peers. Skills in doing primary research (i.e. conducting focus groups and surveys), accessing and evaluating information, paraphrasing, using established referencing systems, applying the principles of effective communication and the professional presentation of documents are all covered during the subject.

This subject introduces the student to styles and trends of the 20th century and the social, political, cultural events and style arbiters that have shaped and influenced fashion from the haute couture to ready to wear.

This subject will provide the participant with the knowledge and skills through practical exercises and examples and projects, in order to expand and evolve their design vision while acquiring a solid foundation of quantitative and qualitative research in order to develop design briefs and concepts for integrated projects.

To provide participants with the knowledge and skills through several projects in order to develop a critical sense and ability for synthesis, permitting the students to choose and apply functional working methods to resolve design issues and problems.

This subject will provide the participant with the knowledge and skills through a series of projects, in order to expand and evolve their design vision while acquiring a solid foundation to create more sophisticated graduate collections.

This subject encourages students to be creative within given boundaries of the surrounding environment. This is an interactive workshop that allows students to be experimental by using traditional techniques and modern techniques in order to create new surfaces, textures or decorate textiles into new mediums that are relevant to the fashion industry.

This subject introduces the concept of Branding by examining the process of how to build sustainable and credible brands that suits consumers needs and wants and resonates with their desires. The subject examines the brand building process and branding strategy options to build emotional connection with consumers establish and sustain compelling market position and differentiate the brand from its competitors.

This subject aims to provide students with the opportunity to gain real-world industry experiences and professional practices in their chosen discipline. It allows students to establish connections, develop useful contacts, and gain industrial skills and an overall perspective of the discipline. The industrial attachment is intended to enhance students’ educational experience and prepare them for their careers.

To provide participants with the knowledge and skills through exploratory and experimental work, the student will develop; draft, drape and sew prototypes of the collection, while developing a professional sense of work ethics and time management skills in order to realize all facets of final collection work.

At the end of the subject, the participants would have successfully created an individual portfolio with digital presentation to complete this subject.

This module provides the opportunity for you to engage in a substantial piece of independent study, based on an area of interest and relevant to your own practice, allowing you to consolidate and further advance your academic and professional knowledge. It aims to develop your critical and analytical skills with relation to academic research, professional practice and communication, and to further develop self-reflection and enquiry.

This module will give you the opportunity to plan and produce a substantial body of self-directed design work. It will consolidate and build on the skills and knowledge you have acquired throughout your studies, enabling you to draw upon past learning experience, demonstrating critical judgement, creativity and coherent development in relation to the production of a fashion collection and portfolio. You will establish a clear context for your graduation project and identify an appropriate, contemporary, fashion market relative to your intended outcomes and career aspirations. The work produced should demonstrate quality and innovation in relation to your individual project proposal. It will provide a framework for you to independently manage and run your own design project and emulate the role of professional fashion practitioners. Throughout the module you will be encouraged to appreciate the value of creative risk taking during the development of your work, moving your ideas and thinking beyond the most obvious response to challenging design problems in order to produce a cohesive body of work that combines aesthetic resolution with commercial realism.

This module aims to develop your competitive and creative thinking, skills and knowledge relevant to Fashion Design. You will complete a body of work that responds to an externally set competitive design project that could include competition(s) or a live client brief/venture. Through exploration and experimentation you will develop appropriate techniques for presenting design proposals to external professional bodies. You will explore the competitive nature of design, while engaging in wider contextual issues such as those associated with the developments in society, technology, ethics and sustainability. Throughout the module you will be encouraged to engage in considered risk taking while focusing on the importance of creative research in the development of accurately targeted design concepts.
